Aneurysmal Subarachnoid Hemorrhage: An Unfolding Case Study
Speaker: Jennifer Wessol, PhD RN CCRN CNRN
Our first speaker, Sam Melada MA RN NPD-BC CNRN SCRN, will present “Posterior Ischemic Stroke: An Unfolding Case Study”. This session will go over an unfolding case study of posterior ischemic stroke, and provide interactive education covering embolic, cerebellar, artery, and ischemic stroke. Our second session, “Aneurysmal Subarachnoid Hemorrhage: An Unfolding Case Study” will be presented by Jennifer Wessol, PhD RN CCRN CNRN. This interactive case study will focus on a ruptured cerebral aneurysm causing SAH. Both sessions will provide validation on nursing practices for expert learners, as well as new information for beginner level nurses.

Traumatic Brain Injury: An Unfolding Case Study

The first speaker, “Multimodal Monitor Management”, will be led by Elizabeth Hundt, PhD APRN ANP-C ACNS-BC FAHA. This session will cover ICP, Brain Tissue Oxygenation, Cerebral Blood Flow, and Brain Metabolism monitors. The second speaker, Michael Rogers, BSN RN NPD-BC CCRN CNRN SCRN, will lead the session, “Traumatic Brain Injury: An Unfolding Case Study”. This session will cover an interactive case study of a patient with severe TBI. Both sessions will provide validation on nursing practices for expert learners, as well as new information for beginner level nurses.

Anatomy & Assessment
In the brain anatomy and assessment session led by Linda Littlejohns, MSN RN SCRN CNRN FAAN, attendees will refresh their understanding of brain anatomy. Building on foundational knowledge, this session focuses on the functional anatomy of the brain. Nurses will learn to assess normal brain function and identify common pathology. The spine anatomy session, led by Marianne Beare Vyas, PhD RN ANP-BC CNRN, will provide nurses with a practical overview of spine anatomy as it relates to assessment. Participants will review key anatomical features of the cervical, thoracic, and lumbar spine, and correlate anatomy to assessment findings.

Seizure & Epilepsy
This virtual session is designed for nurses seeking to refresh their knowledge of seizure management and epilepsy surgery. Participants will begin with a seizure management session led by Madona Plueger, MSN ACNS-BC CNRN FAES, and will review the fundamentals of seizure first aid and emergency medication administration in acute settings. The session will cover common anti-seizure medications, their mechanisms of action, side effects, and strategies to support lifestyle changes that can improve seizure control. With speaker Holly Wirth, DNP RN NE-BC CNE SCRN PMGT-BC, the epilepsy surgery session will address drug-resistant epilepsy, explore surgical treatment options, and highlight the critical role nurses play in caring for patients who have undergone epilepsy surgery.
